(Nur) Abul Fazal Md Nurul Alam, aka “Shamir,” is a licensed Civil Engineer in the State of Michigan, USA, and the Province of Ontario, Canada. With over 32 years of experience in planning, design, and project management in Civil and Structural Engineering across the USA, Canada, and Bangladesh, Nur brings a wealth of expertise to every project.
 

Nur holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma University and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He has a keen interest in integrating architectural splendor with structural integrity, using state-of-the-art approaches and software to transform complex engineering systems into cost-effective, buildable solutions.

In his recent role, he is involved in architectural and structural design of residential structures that include new buildings, lane and garden suites, conversion of basements and attics into secondary dwelling suites, horizontal and vertical extensions of existing buildings, decks, porches, sunrooms, garages, and basement underpinning. He is passionate about creating safe, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing living spaces. With so many years of experience in the field of Civil Engineering, he brings a blend of technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills to every project.
 

Before establishing his own business, Nur held positions in civil engineering design teams at high-profile organizations such as the City of Detroit, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), and the World Bank. He is highly proficient in software including Woodworks Sizer, AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD PRO, OpenRoads, Civil 3D, and MS Project. Nur is well-versed in the Ontario Building Code (OBC), the National Building Code (NBC) of Canada, TACBOC Standard Detail, US Residential Structural Design Guide, AASHTO, TAC, FHWA, Austroad, and various design guides and manuals.

Nur has an outstanding capacity in liaising and developing long term relationships with clients, consultants, agencies, stakeholders, public, and media. He is excited to contribute to innovative projects making a positive impact in the community through showcasing sustainable and forward-thinking approaches.
